Company Overview

Maurice Sporting Goods was established in 1923 by our founder, Maurice Olshansky, as a sporting goods outlet in downtown Chicago. The business grew and prospered after Mr. Olshansky's children grew up and joined the business. By 1958, we had started to supply local discount stores with sporting goods. Our first expansion was to Atlanta in 1968, followed by Dallas in 1969, Harrisburg in 1988, Reno in 1991, and Toronto in 1994. We were the first distributors in the country to computerize. We were also the first to make extensive use of planograms, to pre-ticket, and to provide regional satellite warehouses.

Maurice Sporting Goods today is an established distributor of fishing tackle, shooting sports accessories, and other outdoor sporting and athletic goods to the strongest mass merchandisers in the retail industry. We are the largest distributor in the country, and now can offer our customers true nationwide service through our network of six warehouses.

More than just a distributor, Maurice Sporting Goods are a full service merchandiser. Our people are well trained and motivated. They provide a package of services to our customers which include assortment planning by local market, ad item selection and pricing, effective quick turn replenishment of programmed product, planogram set-up and implementation, analysis of sales and margin production, open to buy and inventory level control, defective product handling, and much, much more. Maurice also designs tailored programs for special use customers such as mail order and incentive programs.

As an international sporting good distributor, we employ over 550 people, including 148 field representatives. Our customer base includes all major retailers in the outdoor sporting goods categories.
