Job Summary:

This position provides legal advice and services to divisions and agencies of the ADA, as set forth below, to protect the legal rights and interests of the ADA. The Senior Associate General Counsel provides legal services and counseling for various ADA entities, focusing on general corporate (including nonprofit) law, governance, healthcare, privacy, contracts, antitrust, membership and client services, and finance.

Responsibilities:

  • Interface and collaborate with senior leadership to understand their business goals and needs
  • Identify and analyze legal issues
  • Assess risks and alternative approaches
  • Select most appropriate approach in view of legal risks and needs of the Association and its members
  • Follow through to make sure approach is properly carried out
  • Review, analyze, negotiate and/or draft contracts in the areas assigned

Must Have:

  • Juris Doctor, admission to Illinois bar
  • Minimum of 12 years' combined experience with a major law firm, corporation or association dealing with general corporate law, litigation, governance and/or contract matters
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Public speaking ability
  • Ability to fully analyze the possible legal ramifications of a wide range of activities and complex areas of law,
  • Have people skills or excellent personal skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Some evening/weekend work
  • Travel to ADA Annual Meeting each fall (5-7 days) plus other occasional travel for meetings

Nice to Have:

  • Knowledge of and experience in health care, privacy, and/or antitrust law
  • Previous experience working closely with corporate boards and/or senior management
