Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree or higher
  • Three (3) years' experience as a security officer, school security officer, or law enforcement officer
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Successful completion of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training within 90 days of employment
  • Successful completion of CPR and First Aid certifications within 90 days of employment
  • Previous successful experience working with students
  • Excellent human relations and communication skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff, students, and parents from a variety of racial, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Ability to remain calm and non-confrontational with students in crisis
  • Ability to diffuse situations calmly and with authority
  • Ability to think clearly and take effective action quickly in an emergency
  • Ability and willingness to physically intervene in student confrontations
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite
  • Willingness to attend professional trainings on a regular basis
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime for patrols at assigned campuses and special events as directed
  • Ability and willingness to respond to after-hours calls via landline or mobile phone and work overtime to respond to emergencies (alarm calls, crises, etc.) as directed
Compensation
  • The hourly wage for this position is determined based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Champaign Educational Support Professionals, which is available on our website. The District gives experienced employees up to 20 years of experience credit for service outside the District if it is directly related to their position. 100% of an employee's contributions to IMRF are currently paid by the Board of Education. The Board also pays 100% of employee-only health and term life insurance. There is a minimal employee cost for vision insurance. Dental is also available at competitive rates to interested employees. There are opportunities for employees to earn additional compensation during the regular school year and in the summer.
