Description:

The Digital Content Associate assists with digital marketing efforts within the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Strategic Marketing and Communications (OVCSMC) at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). The Digital Content Associate is responsible for creating and sending emails using an email marketing tool and building webpages using a Content Management System (CMS). This position offers an excellent opportunity for someone who is detail-oriented, eager to learn and passionate about digital marketing with an interest in digital design and development.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Email Marketing
  • Build emails using Salesforce Marketing Cloud leveraging pre-designed templates and content supplied by team members in marketing, university communications and campus communicators.
  • Advise on email content and layout/design that is engaging, accessible and in alignment with email marketing best practices for the specified target audience and that achieves objectives.
  • Assist in the development of email content, including advising on copy, making suggested edits in alignment with best practices, suggesting appropriate email subject lines to drive open rates, selecting images, participating in the proofreading process and optimizing layout for engagement and conversion.
  • Schedule and send email campaigns while ensuring the accuracy of email lists and adherence to established sending timelines.
  • Contribute to a cohesive email marketing identity, ensuring consistent representation with overarching brand guidelines.

Website Content Management
  • Build and update webpages within our CMS platform (WordPress), ensuring consistency in design, branding functionality and accessibility requirements across university sites.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team and partners across campus to implement website updates, including adding new content, images and multimedia elements with a focus on accessibility and user experience
  • Assists with review and response to incoming website request tickets and gathering additional information as needed to resolve requests and issues in a timely manner.
  • Ensure digital content reflects the university's brand voice and aligns with marketing and communication objectives.

Data and Analytics
  • Monitor email performance metrics such as open rates, click-through rates and conversion rates, and provide recommendations for improvement and optimization.
  • Monitor basic website performance metrics like number of sessions, duration, bounce rate, etc. and make recommendations to enhance the user experience.


Minimum Qualifications Required:

1. Bachelor's degree in public relations, advertising, communications, or a related field.

2. One (1) year (12 months) of professional work experience in communications, promotions, public relations, advertising, or event planning.

3. Demonstrated experience with email marketing and web content management.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of experience in digital marketing, content management, graphic design or other similar role.
  • Understanding of HTML and CSS and graphic design.
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing strategies and user experience principles.
  • Background in higher education or non-profit.
  • Demonstrated understanding of accessibility issues and experience delivering consistently compliant digital experiences.
  • Familiarity with creative tools such as the Adobe Creative Cloud, Figma and others.
