Deputy Chief Underwriter - SBL
The incumbent is responsible for overseeing the SBL Underwriting Team for Capital One's Multifamily platform, specifically for Government Sponsored Entities (i.e. Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, etc.). This role will be responsible for training and overseeing the work product of the SBL team. The incumbent will also perform other duties as necessary to support the goals and objectives of the Multifamily platform and work directly with Originators, the Chief Underwriter and Credit oversight to structure transactions for loan application and approval.
Fully understands the procedural aspect of underwriting Agency Loans from application to delivery and can accurately detail this out to stakeholders within the deal team
Navigates deals through the underwriting process
Correctly identifies all waivers\risks associated with the transactions and provides mitigated recommendation to discuss with their manager
Presents ideas for policy and process improvements to their manager
Review work of Senior Underwriters assisting on deals and prescreens
Higher level external exposure to borrowers and lender counsel
Develops and foster relationships with agency counterparts
Interprets Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac product sheets and underwrite all transaction types, including fixed, floating, supplementals, MHC's, etc.
Review underwriter loan approval presentations for approval and\or submit recommendations
Understand and employ all policies and procedures of the Bank and the Line of Business.
Partner with Closing and outside counsel in the review and approval of loan documentation to ensure the documents meet agreed-upon business terms and satisfy the specific requirements of the appropriate credit approval authority
Foster an open dialogue and strong working relationship with Asset Management, Servicing, Closing and other groups that support and review the line of business
Remain up-to-date on all bank compliance regulatory policies and procedures and on all pending and proposed regulatory changes affecting bank compliance
Partner with Portfolio Management to proactively manage the loan portfolio to identify and address problems to produce timely loan modifications and risk rating changes, as appropriate
Mentor and train team leads and senior underwriters
Travel expected, must visit CONA regional offices, Agency field offices and Originators on a routine basis
Partner with Production Lead for the channel to drive and grow the business
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or Military Experience
At least 5 years of experience in Multifamily Agency lending
Preferred Qualifications:
At least 7 years of experience in Multifamily Agency Lending
At least 5 years of experience in Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac Multifamily underwriting
Experience managing a team of five or more associates
