Job Description
Focused on delivering unsurpassed services in support of law enforcement and homeland security, FSA, a rapidly growing joint venture owned by trusted solutions providers SAIC and AMENTUM, has several temporary vacancies for a General Clerk I (GC1). In this role, you will be supporting the overall mission of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in the annual CAP program. The positions support USCIS Service Centers that process certain immigration applications and petitions.
*Candidates hired for this position can expect an hourly rate of pay of $14.89 per hour with an additional $4.22 per hour paid in health and welfare dollars for a total of $19.11 per hour.
As a GC1 your responsibilities will include providing general clerical support associated with receiving, storing, retrieving, maintaining, and distributing files and correspondence in a timely, complete, and accurate manner. Files may be in paper, electronic, or digitized formats.

Depending upon unit assignment, responsibilities associated with correspondence management include:

  • Receiving, processing, securing, and delivering incoming and outgoing correspondence for all components in the service centers following standard handling requirements. Mail shall be accurately opened, sorted, date stamped, handled, and routed within established time frames.
  • Immediately endorsing incoming fees.
  • Properly handling, securing, and delivering registered mail.
  • Logging registered mail, certified mail, and any other designated correspondence (such as foreign mail).
  • Correctly preparing, sealing, and metering outgoing correspondence to the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) or designated third parties, to include operating document and postal machines that collate, fold, insert material into envelopes, and affix postage and mailing labels.
  • Appropriately handling and delivering mail marked Secret.
  • Appropriately accomplishing all tasks.
  • Completing related tasks as assigned.

All correspondence shall be accounted for in a manner that optimizes proper file management and security. Non-conforming correspondence (undelivered mail) shall be returned within two (2) business days.

In this position a GC1 follows clearly detailed specific procedures in completing several repetitive clerical steps performed in a prescribed or slightly varied sequence. A GC1 uses his or her own judgment in choosing the proper procedure for each task.
A GC1 appropriately accomplishes tasks, and completes related tasks as assigned.

A General Clerk I (GC1) must meet the following qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 6 months to 1 year of limited general experience in a related discipline or field.
  • Additional educational achievements may be substituted for years of experience.

A GC1 must have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Experience coding and filing documents.
  • Experience operating basic office equipment, (e.g., photocopier, facsimile, multi-line phone/voicemail systems, mailing machines, and minimal computer programs).
  • Ability to achieve acceptable quality levels in a fast-paced high-volume environment.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a team environment and relate well to others.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with coworkers both in written and verbal communications.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality with sensitive information.
  • Strong commitment to performing and producing at the highest level of quality at all times.
  • Positive attitude focused on customer satisfaction..

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in one place as well as transverse the office on a continuing basis
  • Ability to grasp, handle and lift files up to 6 inches thick
  • Ability to lift loads of up to 30 pounds onto and off of carts and to push and pull a variety of carts, cages or pallet jacks containing loads of up to 300 pounds
  • Ability to work overhead as well as below the knees, placing files weighing up to 10 pounds onto file tower shelves
  • Read rapidly from both paper and a computer terminal.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as: lifting, standing, sitting, reaching, twisting, sealing envelopes, filing, and reading
Security Requirements:
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background investigation, including credit check and drug test.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Office of Security and Investigations (OSI) background check/security clearance - full field background check required for personnel accessing Interagency Border Inspection System (IBIS), Treasury Enforcement Communications System (TECS), Deportable Alien Control System (DACS).
