Our Claims department is seeking a Field Appraiser to join our growing team in the following territories: Edison NJ, Mahwah NJ, New York City NY, Nassau County NY, Westchester County NY, Rockland County NY,andPutnam County NY.

Position summary:

The position is responsible for all aspects of the appraisal process for damage included but not limited to automobiles, trucks, motor homes, travel trailers, motorcycles and snowmobiles. Responsibilities include physical inspection of vehicle damage, written documentation of damage, appraisal of repair costs, negotiation of cost-effective repair alternatives according to Company guidelines, entry of appraisal into Company system, and timely completion of assignments. Company vehicle provided.

This is a Full-time, Non-Exempt role.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

• Performs physical inspections of vehicle damage as part of claim adjusting process; may handle inspections associated with highly complex claims with minimal oversight
• Prepares written repair cost estimates, applying Company guidelines and State regulations and exercising independent judgment when warranted
• Negotiates cost-effective repair figures according to Company guidelines and State regulations
• Performs timely supplemental inspections of additional damage discovered during course of repair
• Responsible for completing field appraisals on an automated appraisal system at the time of inspection or estimate review
• Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements:

• 3 - 5years of related appraisal experience, preferably with an insurance carrier
• With minimal oversight, performs work independently within specified limits and authority
• A valid State driver's license, clear MVR, and Appraisal License
• Strong negotiation skills and the ability to deal with conflict and resolve issues promptly and fairly is key.
• Familiarity with CCC One or another auto estimating system required along with Windows proficiency, Excel and Word

• Ability to use PC and standard office equipment
• Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle
• Requires regular daily travel to multiple locations
• Ability to load and unload equipment and supplies from vehicle as needed to perform field work
• Ability to bend, stoop, crouch, walk, crawl, and climb while inspecting all types of damaged vehicles in various locations
• Ability to perform field work in adverse weather conditions
• Ability to perform work tasks in a loud work environment
