Job Description
Summary of Position:
The Technical Trainer is responsible for designing, documenting and conducting remote and in-person training for employees, customers and third party service providers, delivering training on the operation, repair and maintenance of pharmacy automation products. May test and maintain training software, documentation, and A/V presentation materials. Conducts training needs analysis and develops technical training materials; operates under general supervision. Instruct and develop technical training courses and materials that deal with complex situations for multiple products. The Technical Trainer interacts with customers and functional areas to develop specifications for content of courses. Prepares lesson plans, training outlines, participant guides, job aids, e-learning content, supplemental learning material, and pre/post tests using software documentation, field requirements, and/ or engineering documentation. Works with Engineering, Customer Support and Field Service to ensure that course material reflects current product features. This position may instruct participants in both classroom lectures, laboratory sessions, and host computer based learning. Conducts follow up to determine applicability of course material.  In addition to course preparation and delivery the Technical Trainer acts as a technical resource for the Customer Care team and will assist with troubleshooting of customer issues.

Essential Functions:
  • Properly maintain training rooms & environments
  • Perform maintenance on equipment
  • Update software versions
  • Troubleshoot hardware/software issues
  • Act as a SME on troubleshooting hardware issues
  • Make recommendations on how to leverage existing hardware/software to provide a dynamic user experience for each learner
  • Maintain accurate training material
  • Attend project meetings
  • Consult with business partners during the development of new system functionality to set objectives, balance priorities and determine user impacts and training implications of new system functionality
  • Estimate timeline to incorporate changes
  • Participate in Quality Assurance Testing and dry run
  • Insure training plan designed meets operational requirements, budget constraints and audience needs
  • Document changes in hardware/software due to upgrades.
  • Incorporate changes in hardware/software due to upgrades into training delivery
  • Design new training curriculum using adult learning methodology that drives knowledge transfer and improved performance.   Create, develop and format training materials including outlines, facilitator, participant and quick reference guides, job aides, labs, e-learning modules and pre/post-tests.
  • Evaluate training program delivered by self and  CBT and monitor their effectiveness
  • Analyze results, identify trends and make adjustments to training design and delivery
  • Initiate and lead projects to improve training design, delivery and knowledge transfer and retention
  • Explore and introduce new training delivery methods and tools
  • Continually assess training progress and development against needs of learners
  • Assists on-boarding new associates.
  • Train new employees on the automation systems, departmental processes and procedures.
  • Mentors and coaches others as needed
  • Provide peer evaluations and offer feedback to improve delivery methods
  • Make recommendations/troubleshoot to optimize customer solutions applying knowledge of solutions and experience including additional functionality/automation
  • Initiate and lead projects to improve training design and delivery, and increase knowledge transfer and retention.  Benchmark and implement best practices and projects to improve training processes. 
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills with in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Strong mathematical, assessment, analytical, judgment and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work within a team oriented environment
  • Willing to travel as needed
  • Knowledge of Oracle, and SQL database.. A strong technical aptitude regarding the interdependencies of functional software applications. 
  • General knowledge of networking.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience of technical vocational training or equivalent combination of experience and education; equivalent experience would include certification in biomedical engineering, electronic engineering technology, or a related field from an accredited institution; normally requires a minimum of four (4) years related and progressively responsible experience as a service technician or engineer in an electronic, electromechanical or biomedical environment, with formal certifications. 
  • Two to four years’ experience in creating training materials and facilitating technical training
  • Pharmacy experience preferred
  • Experience with an LMS (Learning Management System) or e-learning authoring tools,  e.g. Articulate Storyline a plus
