History
PAR's origins date back to 1968 when PAR Technology Corporation was founded as a high tech, government contracting firm. PAR is an acronym for "Pattern Analysis and Recognition". PAR's founder, John W. Sammon, was determined to utilize "technology transfer" as an engine of new opportunity as he and his colleagues developed and transferred government funded research and development initiatives to the commercial sector as viable products with real business applications. PAR then successfully embarked upon a mission to use this transferred technology to develop the industry's first stand alone POS terminal for McDonald's Corporation in 1978.
