General Accountabilities

 
The overall purpose of this position:
The Controls Engineer is a part of the team responsible for the design and development of industrial controls for pharmacy automation equipment.
 
This associate will contribute to the design and development of control systems for pharmacy automation equipment.  This includes electrical control system design, implementation and debug.  This function is achieved by utilization of common engineering tools such as CAD and PLC programming software.  This position also supports technical assistance for the organization.  When a control system issue is reported that Service cannot address, it is escalated to this position for resolution.
 
Specific Accountabilities 
The major responsibilities of this position:
  1. Contributes to the design, implementation and support of ARxIUM products that require control systems
  2. Commissioning of new equipment including mechanical adjustments, dimensional quality tuning, control design / modifications, coordinate contractors to commission on a project and continuous kaizen basis.
  3. Create and develop PLC, HMI, Robot, control programs as required and during new equipment commissioning and modifications, ECI’s (Engineering change instructions)
  4. Performs project management duties for controls portion of development projects
  5. Participates in the analysis and diagnosis of identified issues using problem-solving techniques and group decision-making methods when issues are escalated; supports activities to resolve the issue and engages appropriate software development resources if necessary.
  6. Pro-actively identifies and addresses support situations that could jeopardize customer satisfaction; analyzes problem trends at customer sites through preparation and review of case reports. Provides the results of the analysis to the controls team for incorporation into the product roadmap
  7. Participates in an on call rotation with other controls engineers to take support calls from customers after hours
  8. Reviews escalated service cases to identify additional action; ensures appropriate documentation of issues and identifies problem trends at sites.
  9. Adheres to agreed upon “Definition of Doneness”.
  10. Continually engages in education, training and self-development opportunities.
  11. Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications 
Education and Experience
 
  • Degree in Controls Engineering; Electronics Engineering; Electrical Engineering.  A four year engineering degree is required.  On the job experience and past success will be considered in lieu of an engineering degree. 
  • Normally requires a minimum of six (6) years progressively responsible related experience, including participation as a key team member in one or more large (greater than $1MM) projects.
Skills and Knowledge
 
  • Knowledge and understanding of business principles, processes and technology
  • Sound project management skills with experience in organizing, planning, and executing large-scale projects from vision through implementation
  • Good analytical, conceptual and problem solving skills to evaluate business problems and apply knowledge to identify appropriate solutions
  • Good interpersonal skills and relationship building skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Effective group presentation skills
  • Effective organizational skills; attention to detail
  • Knowledge of computers to operative effectively with computer hardware and software.
  • Demonstrated capability with Allen-Bradley controls architecture
  • Demonstrated capability with CAD applications including AutoCAD.
  • Demonstrated skill in engineering analysis, both hand calculations and computer based.
 Other Comments
Ability to travel up to 40% of the time
