General Accountabilities

 
The overall purpose of this position:
This position is responsible for product development and product engineering activities; introduces new technology to satisfy new and emerging markets. Designs, documents, tests, and modifies current and new equipment and leads small to medium sized mechanical projects. Contributes significantly to specific assignments and performs work which requires application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering activities.
 
Specific Accountabilities 
The major responsibilities of this position:
  1. Creates detailed designs, performs analyses, tests prototypes, and documents completed designs.
  2. Develops design solutions and participates in preparing design concepts.
  3. Develop 3D models and drawings.
  4. Develops problem solving techniques to determine root causes for problems, proposes solutions, and performs validations.
  5. Uses hands-on approach for building and evaluating prototypes.
  6. Reviews, analyzes and tests to ensure the success of assigned projects.
  7. Participates in reviewing functional specifications, cost targets, and mechanical design requirements.
  8. Works with intra and inter-functional groups to optimize design and communication capabilities; works with external customers and suppliers, depending upon project and program activities.
  9. Submits design information to be documented for production.
  10. Investigates and solves reported manufacturing and service issues.
  11. May serve as a hardware team leader on small and medium sized projects, coordinating requirements, schedules and budgets; provides project leader with status update.
  12. May lead up to three engineering associates and/or entry-level engineers; works with other functional leads or team members to track assignment goals.
  13. Performs related duties as assigned.
 Qualifications
 
Education and Experience
 
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Normally requires a minimum of four (4) years directly related and progressively responsible experience.
 
Skills and Knowledge
  • Good analytical, conceptual and problem solving skills to evaluate business problems and apply knowledge to identify appropriate solutions
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; good group presentation skills
  • Strong organizational skills; attention to detail
  • Good interpersonal skills; good relationship building skills
  • Good leadership skills
  • Good analytical and mathematical skills
  • Knowledge of computers to operative effectively with Microsoft Office Suite of applications; mechanical CAD software (SolidWorks, SolidEdge, AutoCAD)
  • Knowledge of hardware tools (small metal, plastic and word forming)
 Other Comments
Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
