SWFT Technical Support Assistant Student Intern

The SWFT Technical Support Assistant Intern works in the Technology Client Services Group and provides technical support to employees. SWFT Technical Support Assistant Interns may be asked to: assist in providing computer support to areas of the campus including: installation and set-up of equipment; lab maintenance; software loading and configuration; troubleshooting and component testing; and assisting users via phone, remote support, and face to face interaction.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Work with other members of support team to assess processes and procedures, recommend improvements, and assist with implementation.
  • Respond to user requests for assistance or information, submitted via phone, in person, and electronically, while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Resolve technical problems and/or suggest solutions.
  • Carry out procedures involved in hardware/software implementation.
  • Inventory computer hardware.
  • Document processes and problem resolutions.
  • Communicate with faculty, staff, and other technical support professionals in the department.
  • Update and assign user-submitted tickets.
  • Technical writing and creation of KnowledgeBase articles.
  • Communicate departmental absences to appropriate staff.
  • Communicate IT Alerts and IT Event notices to the College when the IT Service Desk Coordinator is out.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a current student of Parkland College
  • Working knowledge of hardware and software related to a technical environment supporting Windows and/or Macintosh platforms.
  • Ability to carry out diagnostic and corrective procedures based on analysis of hardware and software.
  • Verbal and mathematical abilities sufficient to produce correspondence, communicate effectively, and perform support duties.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as the ability to provide excellent customer service to a diverse population.
  • Ability to carry and lift typical computer components weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to crawl under desks to access equipment.
  • Must sign a confidentiality agreement.
  • Must pass a criminal background check with fingerprinting.
