The Art & Science Summer Day Camp Counselor provides leadership and planning of specialty STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) programs for different youth between the ages of 6-13 with hands-on active learning to promote critical thinking, curiosity, creativity, and communication.
Salary range starts at $17.40 per hour, Monday-Friday schedule
This is a mobile position, with multiple opening for instructors to run camps at YMCA centers and camp sites in and around Chicago, including:
- Buehler YMCA in Palatine, IL
- Elmhurst YMCA in Elmhurst, IL
- Foglia YMCA in Lake Zurich, IL
- Indian Boundary YMCA in Downers Grove, IL
- Hastings Lake YMCA in Lindenhurst, IL
- Lake View YMCA in the Lake View neighborhood of Chicago
- McCormick YMCA in the Logan's Square neighborhood of Chicago
- Rauner YMCA in the Pilsen/Little Village neighborhood of Chicago
- Sage YMCA in Crystal Lake, IL

Minimum and Required Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalency; completion of higher education coursework or degrees strongly preferred, especially within the science, technology, engineering, art, or math fields
- Must have prior experience working with youth; previous experience in a camp setting strongly preferred
- Able to carry 50+ lbs
- Previous experience facilitating art or science youth programs
- Passion for working with diverse youth and ability to provide a high-quality of instruction using age-appropriate practices.
Child Abuse Prevention - Supports the YMCA's commitment to child abuse prevention by:
- Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor
- Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children
- Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor
- Completing all child abuse prevention training as required
