Purpose of the Position:

Responsible for carrying out capital projects, engineering design, development of specifications, defines scope of work, project planning and execution, as well as organizing and coordinating resource schedules and budgets.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Carries out process improvement, problem resolution, and project management
  • Makes recommendations in the manufacturing processes for improvements in efficiency, quality and cost-reduction.
  • Performs research, design and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods and production equipment, promoting sustainability, and maximizing safety and wellbeing of our employees.
  • Prepares and presents plans for the above and coordinates deployment.
  • Prepares and maintains detailed layouts of buildings and equipment.
  • Coordinates the launch of new/revised manufacturing upgrades including establishing goals, training team members and evaluating results.
  • Designs, develops, sources and tests tools, machinery and equipment for recommended manufacturing improvements.
  • Performs product/process analysis for improvements in manufacturing efficiencies, quality and cost reduction
  • Plans and implements assigned engineering projects including defining the project scope, project activities, equipment specification, contractor requirements as well as plant and customer requirements.
  • Develops and maintains a schedule and budget for the assigned engineering project.
  • Provides reports on the status of project milestones and adjusts schedules accordingly.
  • Maintains interface with Business Unit to provide project updates and ensures customer needs are met
  • Controls expenditures within limitations of project budget. Responsible for project forecasting and spending.
  • Documents all aspects of projects such as directing outside contractors, project integration into the plant operation, technical information, and training.
  • Identifies project staffing requirements and coordinates staffing with supporting organization managers.
  • Coordinates preparation and delivery of project deliverables, design documents, and bid packages.
  • Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, sustainability, ergonomics, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
  • Assigns and oversees project personnel to specific phases or aspects of project such as technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications and technical plans, and product testing.
  • Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.
  • Directs integration of technical activities and products.
  • Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
  • Prepares interim and completion project reports.
  • Capital projects may involve any plant technical issue including, but not limited to: dust control, material handling, automation controls (with familiarity of Industry 4.0), packaging equipment & systems, blending equipment & systems (dry and/or liquids), food manufacturing processes, sanitary design etc.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical or related Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience in manufacturing and process.
  • Hands-on mindset with floor experience; flexibility to work in small team environments, wearing multiple hats; solutions oriented, with preference for the practical side of business
  • Professional License is an asset.
  • Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time to various Griffith plants and vendor sites.
