JOB SUMMARY

The Attending Physician of Advanced Complex Endoscopy specializes in performing high complexity Gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopic procedures, including, Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR), Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD), Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM), etc., under the direction of the Chair of the Division of Gastroenterology throughout Cook County Health (CCH). The Attending Physician, Advanced Complex Endoscopy specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of digestive disorders. The position will perform and supervise regular as well as complex GI procedures and participates in clinic and consultation services as well as training of residents and fellows.

Typical Duties

  • * Provides direct patient care and consultative for Gastroenterology patients in the inpatient and outpatient sites for CCH.
  • * Provides highly specialized outpatient/inpatient acute and chronic digestive disorders care aimed to improve patient outcome.
  • * Performs and interprets GI Endoscopic procedures including advanced EUS, ERCP, EMR, ESD, POEM, etc.
  • * Collaborates with the Department of Anesthesiology in developing and implementing new protocols pertaining to advanced complex endoscopy.
  • * Provides on-call support for the Division of Gastroenterology.
  • * Participates in divisional, departmental, and institutional taskforces and committees.
  • * Participates in the execution of curricula development supporting the training and education for GI fellows, residents, and medical students.
  • * Maintains an active clinical load of at least 80%.
  • * Performs emergency assignments and other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • * Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree from an accredited medical school or university or foreign equivalent
  • * Valid Must be licensed as a Physician in the State of Illinois or have the ability to obtain license prior to starting employment
  • * Valid Illinois Controlled Substance License in the State of Illinois or the ability to obtain license prior to starting employment
  • * Valid licensure with the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) or must obtain Federal DEA licensure two (2) weeks prior to starting employment
  • * Successful completion of a Three (3) year GI Fellowship training from an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical education (ACGME) in Internal Medicine
  • * Successful completion of One (1) year advanced GI endoscopy
  • * Board certification or Board eligibility by American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in a Gastroenterology subspecialty or must obtain Board Certification within in one (1) year of starting this employment
  • * Experience in the practice of Gastroenterology procedures including but not limited to Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR), Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD), and Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM)

  • * Skilled in the practice of Gastroenterology procedures and Motility Studies
  • * Skills in the practice of Advanced complex Gastroenterology procedures including ERCP, EUS, EMR, ESD, POEM. etc.
  • * Demonstrates the ability to follow department specific work rules, hospital and personnel rules.
  • * Demonstrate attention to detail, accuracy and precision in decision making
  • * Ability to provide quality care to patients
  • * Ability to adhere to department policies and standards utilizing best practices and the appropriate use of the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  • * Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and composure when challenged.
  • * Ability to follow hospital protocol when exposed to noise, chemicals, disease, blood borne pathogens, patient violence and procedural injuries
  • * Ability to work flexible hours including weekends, evenings and holidays as needed.
  • * Ability to meet department and divisional productivity thresholds
  • * Ability to meet appropriate confidentiality standards for Protected health Information (PHI)
  • * Ability to provide appropriate patient care while maintaining fiduciary responsibility to patients
  • * Ability to demonstrate service to public health or underserved populations
  • * Must be able to travel to work sites throughout CCH
