Perkins Coie LLP has an immediate opening for a Senior Legal Recruiting Manager. The position manages all law student recruiting and integration activities for the Chicago and Madison offices, and others as needed, as well as firmwide lateral associate and counsel searches as needed. The position also provides oversight for the summer associate program firmwide and provides guidance to recruiting managers responsible for office summer programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

These essential functions are primary job duties that incumbents must be able to perform

  • Summer Program (firmwide and local office(s)):
    • Provide oversight for the summer associate program firmwide, including developing templates, communications, resources, and training for the recruiting managers responsible for office summer programs.
    • Provide communications and lead meetings for attorneys and summer associates related to the summer program.
    • Make data-based recommendations regarding structure and evaluation and offer processes, as well as other key components of the firmwide summer associate program.
    • Plan and implement a program for summer associates that includes orientation, skills training, and social events.
    • Coordinate work assignments, evaluations, feedback, and mentoring processes.
    • Develop, update, and maintain policies, procedures, and processes for the firm's summer program to be used by our recruiters firmwide based on industry best practices.
    • Assist in compiling survey and data information as it pertains to the summer program.
    • Develop and track the annual budget for the firmwide summer program.

  • Law Student Recruiting (local office(s)):
    • For Chicago and Madison offices (and others as needed), review resumes and select law student candidates for screening interviews based on the required criteria: conduct screening interviews and evaluate and recommend candidates for callback interviews; oversee and participate in the callback interview process and the evaluation of candidates following callback interviews; facilitate and participate in the decision-making and offer process.
    • Coordinate participation in on-campus interviews and other recruiting and visibility-raising events on assigned law school campuses.

  • Lateral Associate Recruiting: Although the position is primarily focused on the summer program and law student recruiting, there will also be opportunities to assist in some lateral associate recruiting as needs arise.
    • Serve as the primary recruiter for assigned lateral searches from initial approval and posting through offer and onboarding.
    • Draft position postings and oversee publication of available positions through all appropriate outlets.
    • Identify, evaluate, and manage the use of outlets including publications (print and online) and websites for law schools, local and national bar associations, diversity bar associations, and industry organizations.
    • Develop and communicate information about available positions, about the practice groups and offices filling the positions, and about the firm in general to law school career services professionals and preferred search firms in relevant markets.
    • Review resumes and select candidates for screening interviews based on the required criteria.
    • Conduct screening interviews and evaluate and recommend candidates for callback interviews.
    • Oversee and participate in the callback interview process and the evaluation of candidates following callback interviews.
    • Facilitate and participate in the decision-making and offer process.

  • General
    • For the Chicago and Madison offices (and potentially others as needed), oversee orientation and integration of summer associates, fall associates, and lateral associates into the office, practice group, and firm.
    • Supervise, train, and develop 4-5 legal recruiting managers and other support professionals.

  • Expertise in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Workday applicant tracking system is preferred.

Education & Experience:

  • Requires bachelor's degree and a minimum of eight years of manager-level experience in attorney recruiting, attorney professional development, or relevant field, including working collaboratively in a multi-office law firm.
  • Experience overseeing law school recruiting, summer associate programs, lateral associate recruiting, and new attorney pre-arrival and integration activities.
  • Experience developing policies related to the above areas of responsibility.
  • Experience recruiting for multiple and different legal markets is helpful.
  • Experience in law school career services is beneficial.
  • J.D. and legal practice experience is beneficial.
