Job Description

About Us

At HDR, we specialize in engineering, architecture, environmental and construction services. While we are most well-known for adding beauty and structure to communities through high-performance buildings and smart infrastructure, we provide much more than that. We create an unshakable foundation for progress because our multidisciplinary teams also include scientists, economists, builders, analysts and artists. That's why we believe diversity is our greatest strength. HDR is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace and an affirmative action employer.

Watch Our Story:

We believe that the way we work can add meaning and value to the world. That ideas inspire positive change. That coloring outside the lines can illuminate fresh perspectives. And that small details yield important realizations. Above all, we believe that collaboration is the best way forward.

At HDR, our teams of intelligent, dedicated, multidisciplinary professionals work across our 35 architecture studios to contribute design solutions in support of strong, vibrant and equitable communities around the world. The innovative tools and delivery models we have adopted are transforming how design is delivered and providing more value for our clients. And over the past decade, our focus on design excellence, particularly as it relates to some of society's most essential and complex building types, has increased our recognition and elevated our reputation in the AEC industry around the world.

If you are drawn toward opportunities to use visual design and communication to tell compelling stories about how buildings, landscapes, interiors and engineering systems shape the world around us, this position is for you. In this position you will work collaboratively with HDR's architecture communications team and with architects, designers, thought leaders and subject matter experts from across our practice to simplify intricate architectural, planning and building concepts and translate them into visually compelling communications that contribute to the architecture practice's external communications strategy and thought leadership.

As a core member of the communications team, you'll work alongside professionals with backgrounds in strategic communications, journalism, graphic design, fine arts, media relations and filmmaking. Your work will be integrated as part of fully-developed campaigns that include both written and visual content for social media posts, articles, publications, infographics, videos, and presentations.
Curiosity and attention to detail will be your superpowers. Asking questions, thinking critically, iterating in collaboration with others, problem solving and holding yourself and the larger team accountable to high-quality standards will yield excellent contributions to HDR's architecture communications program.

This role reports directly to the Communications Principal, Architecture with mentorship, support and collaboration from a Senior Graphic Designer with a background in architecture and visualization and from the larger Architecture Marketing Studio.

Responsibilities:

Work alongside our design, marketing and communications leadership to develop visual standards for awards and external media platforms.

Brainstorm and develop diagrams and graphics that convey complex data and information in collaboration with experts from our architecture, design, computational, sustainability, research and planning disciplines.

Refine 3D models, drawings, renderings, and animations to translate and simplify design ideas for our clients, media partners and other key stakeholders.

Collaborate with our architecture communications team and larger Architecture Marketing Studio to brainstorm and develop new ideas and projects in support of our architecture practice business goals.

Deliver assignments on time while consistently meeting quality standards.

Participate in bi-annual communications planning process with architecture and market sector leadership to help shape communications priorities for the practice.
