Job Description

The Surgical Inventory Technician will be responsible for requisitioning, maintaining and distributing routine and special-order surgical supplies for the Ambulatory Surgery Center. Responsible for researching and communicating substitutes for backordered supplies.

Job Relationships

Reports to Manager, ASC Supply Chain Operations

Principal Responsibilities

  • Answers phone requests with the ability to understand the nature of said requests. Can offer alternative products if needed or can assist in locating unavailable products, and/or substitute from another source.
  • Follows up on orders to ensure that materials are shipped and delivered on promised dates.
  • Contacts vendors to follow up on backorders and discrepancies.
  • Works with vendors to ensure Proof of Delivery is provided when requested and process product returns for exchange or credit.
  • Consistently notifies surgery staff of departmental stock orders & backorder releases. Assures timely, accurate delivery according to established schedule.
  • Performs requisitioning, distributing, and maintaining inventory of routine inventory and special-order surgical supplies.
  • Review Surgery scheduled procedures to ensure supplies quantities are available.
  • Participates in physical inventories, assuring accurate counts. Keeps the work area clean & neat. Boxes & packing materials removed.
  • Completes special projects as assigned by leadership.
  • Must function as a Material Management Clerk when the need arises, receiving, replenishment and physical inventory.
  • Develop successful relationships with suppliers, distributors and manufacturers while ensuring that the required products are always in stock.
  • Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.
  • Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy.
  • Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years medical inventory experience required preferably in an operating room environment.
  • Business operations, financial management, materials management, and/or purchasing experience required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience in using Oracle or PeopleSoft is an advantage.
  • Skilled communicator and good negotiator.
  • Working knowledge of medical supplies.
  • Possess strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and applications for inventory.
  • Must possess manual dexterity to use keyboard, cell phone and printers.
  • Must maintain professional behavior.
  • Must have the ability to control emotions and maintain composure under stress, using tact and good judgment.
  • Must be capable of pushing, pulling, stooping, bending, and lifting.
  • Must be able to stand and/or sit for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to adjust to various personalities and situations.

Working Environment

  • Fast paced office environment.
  • Bending, stretching, and lifting are required.
  • Must wear scrubs and enter sterile environments.
  • Requires sitting and standing for periods of time working in an office environment.
  • Regularly communicates utilizing computer and telephone equipment.
