Job Summary |
THIS IS AN IN-PERSON POSITION ON THE CAMPUS OF CHICAGO STATE UNIVERSITY.
SIC teachers must be available to teach Monday - Thursday from 9:00am-3:00pm. Teachers are also required to provide tutorial services when not delivering instruction in the classroom. |
Job Description |
- Devise thorough management objectives, plans, and syllabi in specified areas of study which are compatible with the project's goals for Upward Bound students.
- Develop an engaging and real-life curriculum to help students understand the
value of supplemental instruction.
- Submit required lesson plans one week prior to the start of summer instruction.
- Maintain progress reports and activity journals for each student.
- Write comprehensive final evaluations for all assigned students.
- Work with students in one-to-one and small group instructional settings.
- Collaborate with other teachers, tutors, and administrators to ensure continuity of instruction for the assigned students.
- Maintain general office hours for a minimum of two hours per day, four days per week.
- Schedule additional hours of instruction for each assigned student as appropriate.
- Participation and interaction with all students and staff during general program activities, outside of structured instructional sessions.
- Attend end of the summer closing ceremony.

Minimum Qualifications |
- A Bachelor's or advanced degree in the subject area to be taught, or in a field directly related to the specific area in which he/she will teach.
- Three years' experience in an educational setting, working with high school students in the specified content area.
- Demonstrated competency and proficiency in the basic skills areas, e.g., speaking, reading, and writing.
- Demonstrated competency and proficiency in the use of virtual platforms for teaching and learning.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Illinois Teacher Certification
- Three-five years' experience teaching in content area in which he/she is hired.

- Demonstrated competence and proficiency in basic skill areas, e.g., speaking, reading, and writing.
- Strong commitment to working with students of diverse, racial, ethnic, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds.
- Possess a solid working knowledge of the characteristics and needs of Upward Bound students.
- Be of a flexible nature, capable of pivoting successfully, when necessary, from fixed or preconceived plans to meet unanticipated student needs.
