  • Salary Range: $80,000-$100,000
  • Location: Remote

Position Summary: DAWSON is seeking a Risk Assessor to support our growing environmental team that is executing technical consulting work throughout the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, the U.S. Territories, U.S. Territorial waters and Outlying areas. This full-time position will support a wide range of environmental projects, including those involving hazardous, toxic, and radioactive waste (HTRW), five-year review and periodic review, and Military Munitions Response Program (MMRP) projects. The position may be remote or based in DAWSON's Tysons Corner, VA, Belmont, NC or Denver, CO offices.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and lead human health and/or ecological risk assessments alongside other technical staff;
  • Review, interpret and evaluate environmental data related to remedial design and/or remedial action progress;
  • Support technical approach and pricing processes during contract and task order proposal development;
  • Author, review, and edit risk assessment planning documents and technical deliverables;
  • Provide technical support and/or supervision of environmental data gathered during field activities; including the ability to conduct data validation/data screening to in support of data quality objectives;
  • Mentor technical staff, including young professionals; and
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years of directly related environmental risk assessment (human health and/or ecological) on DoD or USEPA projects in accordance with CERCLA/RCRA.
  • Experience implementing USEPA's Risk Assessment Guidance for Superfund (RAGS) and/or USEPA's Ecological Risk Assessment Guidance for Superfund.
  • Strong detail-oriented technical writing and editing abilities will be viewed favorably.
  • Knowledge of remedial process chemistry, fate and transport of organic, inorganic, and radiological contamination in environmental matrices will be viewed favorably.
  • Existing certifications (or ability to obtain), including OSHA-compliant 40-hr HAZWOPER; OSHA-compliant 8-hr HAZWOPER Annual Refresher (if applicable); OSHA-compliant 30-hr Construction Safety; First Aid/CPR/Blood Borne Pathogens; Medical Surveillance; OPSEC Awareness for Military Members, DoD Employees and Contractors; Level 1 Antiterrorism Awareness Training; iWatch Army
  • Good working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must be capable of accessing Government properties based upon a background check.

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, toxicology, or closely-related academic field from a U.S. accredited college or university.
  • Advanced degrees (e.g., MS, MPH, PhD) and professional licenses (e.g., PE, PG, DABT, CEP) will be viewed favorably.

Travel Requirements: Periodic business travel is required, to include limited overnight travel. Travel will consist of visits to project sites; client offices, and partner offices across the United States. Position involves <5% travel at sites across the United States. Fieldwork may require candidate to walk over uneven terrain up to 8 hours a day (e.g., site inspections). Candidates are subject to "fit for duty" baseline physical and subject to medical monitoring protocols.
