Position Summary:

Responsible for efficiently mixing finished products while maintaining the highest possible food safety quality standards. Perform all control room operations such as setup, operate and maintain equipment to batch and process products; clean and sterilize equipment; and diagnose and troubleshoot problems in order to obtain maximum product flow without sacrificing quality and minimize waste. Responsible to deliver a product to a customer that meets their requirements in both taste and appearance.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Follow batch sheet without deviation while mixing product. Any deviation must be approved and all deviations must be recorded on the batch adjustment sheet. Ensure that sufficient product is blended and mixed as noted on the production schedule; if necessary, make additional batches as directed by supervisor or foreman
  • Record data on the mixer SIS form. Ensure that scanner procedures are followed correctly. Communicate discrepancies. Ensure that older ingredients are used first. Perform sanitation tasks between runs
  • Makes necessary approved adjustments, monitor gauges, equipment and temperatures. Keep records of batches made, ingredients used, and record processing parameters
  • Read daily production schedule and process orders in the established sequence. Notify supervisor of issues or discrepancies
  • Constant communication with supervisor, foreman, maintenance, QA, operators and other personnel as needed. Ensure communication and shift hand off to oncoming operator
  • For pre-shift preparation ensure that all surfaces that will contact product, i.e., piping, utensils and vessels are sanitized and ready for operation; ensure piping is properly closed
  • Complete all paperwork in a timely manner and turn in to appropriate personnel, fill out maintenance or safety work orders as needed. Ensure proper rework instructions are followed as directed by supervisor, foreman and/or QA; operate RF smart and JDE. Responsible for training other employees on all activities
  • For post operation, maintain good housekeeping, follow all GMPs and close out shift properly by passing along necessary information to next shift or to supervisor and/or foreman or sanitation. Leave area clean and orderly
  • Responsible for following all food safety policies, procedures and regulatory criteria including the current SQF code, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and associated preventive controls
  • Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1-3 years of experience
  • Experience handling chemicals
Knowledge and Skills:
  • General knowledge of how the mixture or adding certain ingredients will affect the overall product and thorough knowledge of what each ingredient will bring to the overall property of the product
  • Highly organized with the ability to meticulously follow procedures
  • Strong communication skills to interact with coworkers, other operators and management
  • Knowledge of GMP standards and expectations and SQF guidelines

Physical Demands:

Regularly requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Physical strength and dexterity sufficient to perform the required task(s). Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more with assistance. Additional demands may be required.

Work Environment:

In addition to normal business hours, work schedules may include after hours and weekends as needed. May work outside and in adverse temperatures which include extreme hot, cold, and humidity. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. Must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as required by established Company Safety standards. May require work in confined and dark spaces, and at heights in excess of 18 feet for prolonged periods of time.
