Description

The Physician Leader of each CNPA practice oversees clinical operations, with a focus on maintaining the highest standards of clinical excellence, fiscal responsibility, safety, and professionalism. This responsibility is performed in partnership with the Practice Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physicians and Administrative Manager leaders to ensure the highest level of efficiency and safety, while encouraging a collaborative and team-based culture. The Practice leader will report directly to the Medical Director of CNPA and CNPA Director of Business Operations, with the executive oversight by the VP of Ambulatory Services and CNH Executive Leadership. In addition to Physician Leadership duties, will be responsible for the comprehensive care of patients in the Children's National Pediatrician & Associates practices including; appropriate documentation and reporting where required and needed; supervision of assigned clinical and nonclinical staff; and participation in assigned administrative & quality improvement activities and regularly scheduled provider meetings.

Qualifications

Minimum Education

Medical Doctor (M.D.) or Medical Doctor (M.D.) Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and completion of residency program in pediatrics.

Required Licenses

Fully licensed and credentialed attending staff category physician on the medical staff of Children's National Medical Center. And

Completion of residency in pediatrics. Board eligible or board certification in general pediatrics by American Board of Pediatrics/ or American Osteopathic Association.

Required Skills/Knowledge

Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in the area of expertise.

Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care.

Ability to function independently in evaluating patient problems and developing a plan for patient care.

Ability to incorporate ethical concepts into patient care and discuss these with the patient, family, and other members of the health care team.

Ability to supervise, advise, and train clinical professionals and/or students in area of expertise.

Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.

Demonstration of a personal commitment to Continuing Professional Development and ability to remain current on the developments and progress in primary care pediatrics.

Knowledge of and compliance with legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care.

Functional Accountabilities

Commitment to World Class Care

Perform patient care, including examinations, tests, reports, procedures and other functions accepted as part of the practice of medicine consistent with normally accepted standards of care.

Perform complete physical examinations of each patient consistent with the normally accepted standard of care in the community including but not limited to, examinations of the patient's head, eyes, ears, nose, throat, abdomen, liver, and spleen, and all systems of the body including but not limited to the circulatory , reproductive and nervous systems.

Analyze reports and/or findings of tests and personal examinations in order to assess the medical condition of the patient, including diagnosing his/her injury or illness and formulating a prognosis.

Perform or supervise various invasive medical procedures that include, but are not limited to, the injection of medications, inoculations, and vaccinations.

Prescribe medication and treatment for the patient and recommending appropriate physical and dietary routines and methods for prevention of disease and personal hygiene.

Responsible for causing twenty-four (24) hours a day, three hundred sixty-five (365) days per year coverage of patient care needs for the location or locations where the Physician performs clinical services.

Actively participate in family centered care and communicate in a professional and compassionate manner; refer patients

to specialists and to relevant ancillary services as appropriate.

Documentation and Reporting

Appropriately document findings, procedures, etc. in the designated electronic medical record.

Obtain and legibly record in the designated electronic medical record a detailed medical history of each patient, including, but not limited to, the patient's chief complaint, his/her present condition, the patient's individual history , and his/her family history.

Keep and maintain appropriate records relating to all professional services rendered. Prepare and attend to all reports, claims, and correspondence necessary or appropriate to the performance of the professional services.

Provide timely reports of births, deaths, outbreaks of contagious diseases and other information required to appropriate governmental authorities and as required for the Company reporting.

Management and Administrative

Directly supervise nurses and other personnel in accordance with Company's policies, procedures and applicable laws.

Supervisory responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, interviewing, hiring, and training new assigned staff; assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Participate in the Company governance and management, credentialing and peer review activities; and attending all meetings but not less than 50% of meetings in connection with governance, management, credentialing and peer review, if members of such entities.

Follow all policies and procedures of the Company and of any managed care organization with which the Company may contract.

Perform other duties assigned by the Company from time to time that are commensurate with professional services normally and customarily performed by a physician.

Business Operations

Oversight of the Practice budget and financial viability in collaboration with the Practice Operations Manager, to include:

  • Work with Business Manager and Practice Operations Manager to review and approve budgets.
  • Review of Monthly Income Statements, Financial Packets, and Performance Scorecards.
  • Work with the Business Manager to ensure accuracy of FTEs and salaries of providers and staff.
  • Provide support and mentorship to underperforming providers to ensure maximization of their productivity and coding to improve wRVU.

Collaborate in future planning of practice and organization, assist with creating a 5-year plan for practice.

Work in partnership with CNPA Leadership and PR & Marketing to develop and implement a practice marketing strategy, to include community outreach.

Practice Operations Oversight

Personnel

Support the Practice Manager in the management and oversight of staff.

Support of staffing and scheduling efforts with Practice Manager.

Dedicated mentoring of providers on a routine basis.

Develop and maintain peer review methods to ensure highest level of clinical and professional competence. Perform Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE) reviews on an annual basis, or as required by Medical Staffing Office.

Oversee the interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and disciplinary action of providers.

Clinical

Clinical oversight and management of the VFC vaccine program and commercial vaccines.

Adherence to clinical best practices to improve patient care and outcomes.

Champion the implementation of clinical workflows that improve quality of patient care (i.e., COVID testing and vaccinations, new service lines, etc.) and oversight beyond implementation period.

Quality of Care

Monitor metrics of patient safety and satisfaction to develop and implement PDSAs for improvement.

Ensure a Quality Champion is assigned for the practice to attend Monthly Quality Champions Meetings, monitor site quality performance, and implement plan for improvement to ensure maximization of quality scores.

Communications

Attend Practice and Leadership meetings (including PL, PQM, Huddles).

Collaborate with the Practice Manager to lead and ensure an all-staff monthly practice meeting is being held consistently, including an all-Provider meeting on monthly or bi-monthly basis.

Engage and recruit providers to participate in CNPA Committees and ensure the dissemination and report out from the committees by the participating providers to the appropriate audience (i.e., providers, staff, etc.).

Regular communication with providers and staff facilitating an understanding of the CNPA mission and status.
